Carrots and tomatoes from Natursi in Sicily

The carrot season at Natursi in sunny Sicily started in February. This will be followed by cherry tomatoes this month. These tomatoes grow in the new modern 4 ha greenhouse.

The Italian family business Natursi has 380 ha cultivation area on the island’s south coast, near Ispica, which is 1.5 hours from Catania. Here Natursia cultivates mainly carrots, courgettes and fennel as well as aubergines, artichokes, potatoes, melons, tomatoes, paprika and citrus fruits to make their product range even more diverse.

The company is managed by the three brothers, Massimo, Giovanni and Marco Spataro. It was founded by the father and uncle in 1999 and cultivation was then, as today, 100% organic.

BioTropic has been working with the Spataro family since 2001. The three brothers from Natursi are amongst the most important organic carrot producers in Italy, possibly even Europe. One reason for this is probably that the committed brothers only ever grew their products organically, they are not familiar with anything else, and this is now the case already in the second generation.

One of the brothers, Massimo, also has his own organic shop in Ragusa which, of course, also sells the fresh products from Natursi.
